Entry No. 7 — the Austin file — filed under: botanica
La Botanica Green & White
What opened in the mid-1930s as Norverto Lopez's neighborhood grocery and butcher shop is now a full botanica run by third-generation owner John Cazares Jr., who still rings up ritual oils and Santa Muerte candles on the same mechanical cash register his family used when the shop sold groceries and 'nationally famous' tamales.
The move: Walk the aisles of saints, orishas, and cleansing herbs, then book a consultation or limpia — offered Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays — before wandering the rest of East 7th.
