Entry No. 30 — the Baltimore file — filed under: history
American Visionary Art Museum
The national museum of self-taught "outsider" visionary art — a mirror-mosaic egg out front, a three-story mechanical whirligig, and galleries of obsessive untrained genius (matchstick cathedrals, art made in asylums and on farms) at the foot of Federal Hill.
The move: Wander the single big themed exhibition they mount each year, gawk at the giant whirligig and the mirror-tiled walls, then climb Federal Hill next door for the harbor view.
📍 Before you go One major themed exhibition runs per year; closed Mondays. The gift shop (Sideshow) is a destination in itself.
