Hell Roarin' Gulch at the World Museum of Mining
Built on the grounds of the still-standing Orphan Girl mine, this museum surrounds a meticulous recreation of an 1890s mining town playfully named Hell Roarin' Gulch. You can wander dozens of period storefronts crammed with original artifacts, from an apothecary and Chinese laundry to a dentist's office and assay shop. Rusting headframes and industrial relics loom over the town, and underground mine tours descend into the actual Orphan Girl shaft.
The move: Stroll the recreated 1890s gulch peering into each crammed storefront, then book the underground mine tour to go below ground together.
📍 Before you go Largely a seasonal/warm-weather operation; the underground Orphan Girl mine tour is separately ticketed and limited, so check the schedule.
