Entry No. 11 — the Chicago file — filed under: haunted

Red Lion Pub

This British-style pub sits on ground that was once a 19th-century burial area for cholera victims and Confederate soldiers, and it is reputed to host as many as seven spirits. Regulars and staff describe a 'Lavender Woman' on the second floor, sudden cold spots, and the lingering scent of heavy perfume. The pub has been a Lincoln Avenue fixture since 1984 and still pours pints in its atmospheric upstairs rooms.

The move: Grab fish and chips and a couple of cask ales upstairs, then see whether the Lavender Woman's perfume drifts past your table.
