Entry No. 65 — the Chicago file — filed under: roadside-oddity
Volo Museum
What started as a 1960s collector-car dealership has sprawled into a 35-acre warren where Hollywood movie cars share space with salvaged ShowBiz Pizza and Chuck E. Cheese animatronics still wired to twitch. There's a Titanic exhibit, an animatronic-dinosaur garden, and four cavernous antique malls, one of which has a long-running reputation among ghost hunters. The collection's logic is pure accretion: famous TV vehicles, Disney and Looney Tunes displays, and cars once owned by the rich and infamous, much of it quietly for sale.
The move: Wander the animatronic-dinosaur garden and hunt for your favorite movie car, then poke through the reputedly haunted antique mall for a strange souvenir.
