Entry No. 10 — the Houston file — filed under: single-obsession
Houston Police Museum
Tucked into the lobby of HPD headquarters, a cramped but dense collection anchored by a full-size police helicopter hovering over a 1952 black-and-white prowl car, Thompson submachine guns issued to fight 1930s gangsters, and a solid gold badge inset with a diamond and emeralds worn by the city's 1910 police chief.
The move: Stop in free on a downtown afternoon, find the gold diamond-and-emerald badge, then walk over to Market Square for a drink and debate whether 1910 police chiefs dressed better than today's.
