Housed in an 1852 Italianate mansion, this community museum preserves the forgotten disasters of Louisville's riverfront, including 19th-century steamboat accidents and the devastating 1937 Great Flood. Just down the road at Portland Wharf Park lie the buried archaeological remnants of the lost port town swallowed by flood silt.

The move: Explore the museum's riverboat and disaster exhibits, then head to nearby Portland Wharf Park to trace the outline of the buried historic streetscape along the floodwall.
