Elmwood Cemetery

Memphis's oldest continuously operating cemetery holds roughly 2,500 unmarked victims of the catastrophic 1878 yellow fever epidemic, plus the grave of Georgia Tann, the black-market baby trafficker whose Memphis adoption racket made national headlines, and Civil War historian Shelby Foote buried beside the family plot of Nathan Bedford Forrest.

The move: Walk the 80 acres of Victorian-era paths together at dusk, track down the yellow fever section and Georgia Tann's headstone using the cemetery's burial-search database, then catch one of the docent-led 'Tomb Talks' or tram tours built around the site's darker residents.
