Memphis Gong Chamber (at Memphis Drum Shop)

A retail drum shop that doubles as a chamber holding roughly 250 gongs from 20 to 80 inches, including a $28,000 Paiste Symphonic gong that owner Jim Pettit says produces sounds people describe as 'flying through space with the planets going by' or 'on the ocean floor watching the waves crash over you.' Atlas Obscura calls it, in the owner's own words, 'weird stuff.'

The move: Book Nancy's Sound Journey together, recline side-by-side in zero-gravity chairs in the dimly lit chamber, and let an hour of gong, singing-bowl, and chime tones rattle your sternums before comparing notes on what you each 'saw' with your eyes closed.
