Entry No. 22 — the Miami file — filed under: artist-built
Bakehouse Art Complex
A 1930s industrial bakery converted since 1985 into working studios for over 100 resident artists, with an actual print room, photo lab, ceramic kiln, and woodshop still humming behind gallery walls — you can walk the halls and watch artists mid-project through open studio doors.
The move: Drop in during open hours (noon–5pm any day) and just wander the studio corridors reading whatever's taped to each artist's door, then check whether an opening reception or concert is on the calendar that night.
