Garden of One Thousand Buddhas — Occult & Mystical in Missoula

Entry No. 6 — the Missoula file — filed under: witchy

Garden of One Thousand Buddhas

This Tibetan Buddhist garden lays out its entire 10-acre footprint as a single walk-through artwork: one thousand identical white Buddha figures and one thousand small stupas radiate from a towering central statue of Yum Chenmo along the eight spokes of a Dharma wheel. You enter on foot and follow the geometry, with koi ponds, prayer flags, and the Jocko Valley mountains as the backdrop. It was built over years by volunteers on land of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, and it is free and open every day.

The move: Walk the eight spokes of the Dharma wheel together at golden hour, then pick your favorite of the thousand Buddhas.

📍 Before you go Free, open dawn to dusk year-round; about 28 miles north of Missoula on Hwy 93. It is an active spiritual site, so dress and behave respectfully.
