Henry Miller Memorial Library

Built by Emil White as his own home in the 1960s and turned into an ungovernable hybrid space after Henry Miller's death — 'not a library where you can borrow books, not a memorial with dusty relics' — it's free coffee, a ping-pong table on the lawn under redwoods, a bookstore-gallery, and decades of local-artist ephemera in a building that was never meant to be a museum.
