Travellers Rest Historic House Museum

Judge John Overton originally named his 1799 farmhouse 'Golgotha' after workers unearthed human skulls while digging the cellar — remains later identified as a Mississippian-era village that stood on the same ground roughly five hundred years before he built there, and construction turned up still more burials as recently as 1995.

The move: Take the guided house tour (Tuesday–Saturday), then walk the grounds where the 1995 burials were found and debate what 'haunted' even means on land layered with that much history.
