Entry No. 54 — the New Orleans file — filed under: hands-on
New Orleans School of Cooking
Set inside a renovated 1830s molasses warehouse in the French Quarter, this school runs a three-hour hands-on class where couples actually cook rather than just watch. Working a shared cooktop with an expert chef, you prepare a full Louisiana dinner that can include gumbo, jambalaya, etouffee, and a dessert like bananas Foster or bread pudding. The chefs season the lessons with local history, trivia, and tall tales, then everyone sits down to eat what they made. You leave with recipe cards and an apron.
The move: Stand side by side at one cooktop building a pot of gumbo and jambalaya from scratch with a chef, then sit down and eat the dinner you cooked together.
📍 Before you go Hands-on class is $149/person, 3 hours, daily at 10am and 6pm, ages 18+, capped at 10 people across five stations. Book in advance.
