Entry No. 19 — the Sacramento file — filed under: art
Shipwrecked Paradise Island
The follow-up chapter to Davis's Shipwrecked Tiki Bar tells the story of the same fictional Captain Bad Luck Bob crashing on a reef — a massive carved anaconda coils over the circular bar, elephants and tigers loom out of the jungle dressing, and Venus flytraps sit among hollowed tree-trunk seating. One tiki reviewer called it "an adult version of Rainforest Cafe," and meant it as a compliment.
The move: Split a round of tropical cocktails and oysters (BOGO on Sundays) and take turns finding the wildest hidden animatronic critter tucked in the ruins-and-jungle set dressing.
