Entry No. 20 — the San Francisco file — filed under: glassblowing
Public Glass
San Francisco's only public-access glassblowing studio, a nonprofit hot shop tucked into an industrial stretch of the Bayview where total beginners are handed a blowpipe and 2,000-degree molten glass under one-on-one instruction.
The move: Take the 3-hour 'Play With Fire' hot glass intro side by side — gather molten glass on the pipe, shape it with wet newspaper pads and jacks, and each leave with a paperweight or ornament you personally blew.
