Little Gracie Watson Monument (Bonaventure Cemetery)

A life-size white marble statue of a 6-year-old girl in a starched pinafore sits at her own grave in Bonaventure Cemetery, sculpted by local artist John Walz in 1890 from a photograph — the girl died in 1889 of blood poisoning brought on by a severe attack of pneumonia. Wikipedia calls it one of the only funerary monuments in Georgia carved to someone's exact likeness. Visitors still leave coins, toys, and trinkets at the now-fenced plot (gated in 1999), and tours visit to mark her birthday each year.

The move: Walk the 160-acre bluff-top cemetery at golden hour (open daily 8am-5pm, free), tracking down Little Gracie's fenced grave and the trinkets strangers leave her, then talk about which Victorian mourning custom creeps you out most.
