Entry No. 8 — the Wichita file — filed under: float tank

TankHouse Community

Wichita's only sensory-deprivation float source, run as a self-supported, faith-based community sanctuary rather than a spa. You climb into a pod with 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt in 200 gallons of water and float in total dark and silence, then can add acupressure or reflexology.

The move: Book back-to-back float sessions so you each get a private tank-quiet reset, then compare the floaty afterglow over a slow walk and a snack nearby.

📍 Before you go This runs by appointment only — it's a community sanctuary rather than a walk-in spa — so book your float well ahead and arrive together a few minutes early to get oriented; it's tucked away in Southeast Wichita off George Washington Drive, so map it before you set out. Prep matters more than timing: skip caffeine beforehand, don't shave that day (the heavy salt water stings fresh nicks), take contacts out, and plan to shower both before and after. Daytime or early-evening slots leave the most room afterward for a slow, floaty post-float walk together while the calm lingers.

Where: 1342 George Washington Dr, Wichita, KS 67211

Hours: Open Mon, Wed-Sun ~10am-10pm; closed Tuesdays. Reported phone (316) 833-6018. Verify before going.
