Anchorage Aurora Quest (Alaska Photo Treks)

A nocturnal northern-lights chase that picks you up at your hotel and drives toward whatever dark sky within a 100-mile radius has the best odds that night, hitting one to three spots as conditions shift. Pro photographer guides set up cameras, hand out free hand and toe warmers, and pour hot cocoa, cider, tea, and coffee through the small hours. They throw in complimentary portrait shots of you under the aurora, and only run when the forecast clears the bar (at least a Kp1 aurora with clear or mostly clear skies).

The move: Bundle up and ride into the Alaskan dark together around 9 pm, sipping cocoa while a guide frames a photo of the two of you standing under the green ribbons overhead.
