Entry No. 27 — the Boise file — filed under: roadside-oddity
Big Idaho Potato Hotel
A six-ton, 28-foot-long steel-and-plaster russet that spent years touring the country on a truck for the Idaho Potato Commission now sits permanently in a farm field south of Boise. After retiring from the road in 2019 it was converted into a one-bedroom Airbnb, so the colossal spud is both a giant roadside object and a place you can actually sleep inside. It rests on 400 acres with views toward the Owyhee Mountains.
The move: Book a night inside the giant potato for a genuinely absurd overnight, or just drive the farm road for a photo with the world's most famous spud.
📍 Before you go It is a private Airbnb on a working farm, not a public roadside pull-off; full access requires booking, and the exact location is given to guests.
