Boston Fire Museum

A volunteer-run museum inside the 1891 Congress Street Fire Station, a Romanesque Revival firehouse on the National Register, staffed by self-described 'fire buffs' of the Boston Sparks Association — the same all-volunteer nonprofit that still runs canteen trucks out to real fire scenes across 35 Boston-area towns.

The move: Time a Saturday morning around it: climb aboard the vintage apparatus, ask a volunteer 'Sparks' member for a story about a real Boston fire, then walk the Fort Point Channel waterfront just outside.
