Boulder Ghost Tours
Departing nightly from the 1890s-era Spruce Mansion at 1123 Spruce Street, Boulder Ghost Tours leads 75-minute walking tours through downtown's Victorian-era haunted landscape. The signature stop is the Boulder Theater, where manager George Paper died in 1944 after slipping off a ladder and entangling himself in the lighting wires — his ghost has been blamed for vanishing backstage lightbulbs, flickering switches, and opening bathroom doors ever since (the adjacent bar, George's Food & Drink, is named in his honor). The route also covers the 1877 Arnett-Fullen House at 646 Pearl Street and the Hotel Boulderado, Boulder's first luxury hotel. A separate 21-and-over Haunted Pub Tour rotates through three Pearl Street bars — Pearl Street Pub & Cellar, Sundown Saloon, and West End Tavern — in 30-minute stops each.
The move: Start with the 7pm walking tour to set a genuinely creepy mood — guides carry picture books of period faces and share stories specific enough to make you look twice at old buildings. Follow with drinks at George's Food & Drink next to the Boulder Theater, which is named for the resident ghost you just heard about.
📍 Before you go Tours depart nightly at 7pm and 8:30pm year-round; book online in advance as group sizes are limited. Tickets run ~$35/person. Free parking in the Spruce Mansion lot after 7pm. Wear walking shoes — the route covers about a mile. The 21+ Haunted Pub Tour is a separate booking and runs about 90 minutes; drinks at the three bar stops are not included in the ticket price. Children under 12 not recommended for the standard tour.
