Lyons Classic Pinball

Opened in 2003 by pinball devotees Kevin and Carole Carroll, Lyons Classic Pinball has grown into Colorado's largest pinball arcade — 70-plus meticulously maintained machines packed into a 1936 building on Main Street. The collection spans seven decades, from a 1971 Doodle Bug electromechanical table through current-year releases like James Bond. Hercules, the largest pinball machine ever manufactured, occupies a corner of the floor, its cue-ball-sized pinball dwarfing every other table in the room. Historical plaques accompany the machines. Rock-and-roll titles — Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, AC/DC — share space with Addams Family and Star Wars. The arcade runs monthly tournaments that earn World Pinball Player Rankings points, drawing serious competitors from across the country. Alcohol-free and all-ages; well-behaved dogs welcome.

The move: Start with a quarter or two on the 1971 Doodle Bug, work up through the decades, and end on Hercules just to say you launched a cue-ball-sized pinball. Oskar Blues Grill is next door for drinks and food after. Budget two to three hours and bring cash.

📍 Before you go Open Thursday 5–10 pm, Friday 4–10 pm, Saturday noon–10 pm, Sunday noon–9 pm; closed Monday through Wednesday. No reservations needed for walk-in play. Games cost 25 cents to $1; bring cash or use the on-site change machine. Day passes and memberships available for unlimited play. Lyons is about 20 miles north of Boulder on US-36 — parking is easy on or near Main Street. Busiest Saturday afternoons in summer.
