Entry No. 40 — the Bozeman file — filed under: hands-on
Fire Hole Pottery
A private wheel-throwing studio on the edge of Bozeman run by Carl Sheehan, who has been teaching the potter's wheel for roughly 40 years. Lessons are one-on-one or small (up to three people on three wheels) at $65 per hour per person, with personalized instruction that walks you through centering clay, bisque firing, and glazing, finished in a high-fire gas kiln. It is genuinely a teaching workshop rather than a paint-your-own pottery shop.
The move: Split a private wheel lesson so you each fumble and then nail your first thrown mug under a four-decade veteran's eye.
📍 Before you go By appointment only; call or email ahead, and finished pieces require firing/glazing turnaround before pickup.
