The Vendue — Charleston's Art Hotel

A boutique hotel that markets itself outright as "Charleston's Art Hotel": original paintings, a mixed-media blue-whale sculpture, and hand-cut paper works like "The Good Boy" cover every hallway, stairwell, and elevator lobby, curated by an on-staff gallery director who tells wanderers to "get audacious." Artist-in-residence Fred Jamar keeps a working studio in the hotel's Enclave building, so the collection is still being added to in real time.

The move: Self-guided art crawl through the hotel's public floors and stairwells (free, no room required), finishing at the rooftop bar for harbor views over the last piece in the collection.
