Entry No. 108 — the Chicago file — filed under: night sky
Patio Theater
Built in 1927, the auditorium ceiling is literally painted as a night sky — dark blue with blinking star lights and clouds drifting across via projector, a Neo-Pompeian trick that survived multiple near-death closures before a 2021 reopening.
The move: Catch a repertory or cult screening (past lineups have run 'Halfway to HalloScream' nights with live DJ sets before the film) and just sit back and watch the fake clouds move overhead before the movie starts.
