Orton Geological Museum
Located inside the historic, castle-like Orton Hall on the Ohio State campus, this free museum houses a spectacular collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils. Its crown jewel is 'Jeff,' a massive, fully mounted fossil skeleton of a giant ground sloth that roamed Ohio during the Ice Age.
The move: Examine fossilized dinosaur bones and prehistoric shark teeth inside the gallery, then step outside to hear the university chimes ring from the building's iconic bell tower.
