Haunted Hill House
“roughly half of all visitors… don't make it through the night”
An 1890s Victorian that served as a brothel and speakeasy for wealthy Baker Hotel guests, the Haunted Hill House is now a world-renowned paranormal site where roughly half of all visitors — including professional ghost-hunting teams — don't make it through the night. Guests have reported scratches, apparitions, and objects moving on their own, with a notoriously aggressive entity nicknamed "Toby" blamed for much of the physical activity.
The move: Book a private overnight ghost investigation (up to 8 guests, $550 for a Friday or Saturday night) — the house supplies all the equipment and teaches you how to use it, so you spend the night doing EVP sessions, watching the cameras, and daring each other to stay in the most active rooms until dawn.
📍 Before you go You're heading deep into Mineral Wells, roughly 90 minutes west of Dallas, so build in real drive time and treat it as a day trip or overnight rather than a casual evening out. The house sits tucked at the foot of East Mountain, just steps from the towering, long-shuttered Baker Hotel — the two make an easy pairing, and downtown's "Crazy Water" mineral-spa heritage rounds out the trip. There are no walk-ups or free peek-ins: you'll need a reservation, since most nights are private overnight investigations with only a couple of public tours each spring. Minimum age is 13, and it's a private property, so be respectful of the surroundings.
