The Famous Mineral Water Company / Crazy Water Bar
The Famous Mineral Water Company is the last surviving pavilion from Mineral Wells' early-1900s "crazy water" boom, when lithium-laced wells drew thousands of invalids seeking cures for madness and ailments; today you can still belly up to the bar and work through four numbered levels of the mineral water, each progressively more mineral-laden and strange-tasting. The original 1904 pavilion is still staffed by people who will walk you through the town's gloriously weird history between sips.
The move: Sample all four levels of Crazy Water at the pavilion bar — the staff will guide you from the mild #1 to the intensely minerally #4 — then walk a few blocks to the restored Crazy Water Hotel's Coffee and Water Bar (609 NW 1st Ave) for drinks made with the local water, and browse the small on-site museum of early-1900s cure-culture artifacts before filling a gallon jug to take home as a souvenir.
📍 Before you go This is a day trip, not a Dallas night out: the pavilion sits in downtown Mineral Wells, roughly 80 miles and about an hour and a half west via I-30 and US-180, so plan around the drive and the fact that it keeps daytime, mostly weekday-and-Saturday business hours. The 1904 pavilion is the tasting room; bring an empty 1-to-5-gallon jug if you want to haul water home. It pairs naturally with the restored Crazy Water Hotel and its coffee-and-water bar a few blocks away, and the town's revived Crazy Bath House if you want an actual mineral soak. Confirm seasonal hours and whether bath appointments are needed before you make the drive.
