Lady of the Lake roadside (East Lawther Drive, White Rock Lake)
Dallas's signature ghost: a young woman in a water-soaked 1930s evening dress said to appear at night along East Lawther Drive, asking for a ride to a Gaston Avenue address before vanishing and leaving the car seat soaking wet. The legend was first written up in 1943 in the Texas Folklore Society's 'Backwoods to Border'; historians have never confirmed a matching drowning, which only deepens the lore.
The move: Drive the eastern shore along East Lawther Drive after dark with the windows cracked and tell the legend version by version (the 1927 drowning, the 1935 suicide, the 1942 one). Park lakeside, watch the water, and dare each other to picture the soaked passenger in the back seat.
