Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center

“almost no non-Latino Denverite has ever bothered to see, which is exactly why you should”

The oldest theater company of any kind in Denver — founded in 1972 by CU-Denver students as a protest against a remedial-reading requirement — and the third-oldest Chicano theater company in the country. It now lives in the 1921 Cameron Movie Theater at 721 Santa Fe, a 320-seat main house plus a small studio and gallery. The work is Colorado-specific Chicano storytelling that almost no non-Latino Denverite has ever bothered to see, which is exactly why you should.

The move: Grab tickets to a mainstage show, then walk it off in the surrounding arts district. It's a real night out at a genuinely historic venue most locals couldn't point you to.

📍 Before you go Su Teatro sits right on the corner of 7th and Santa Fe Drive, in the restored brick building that anchors the Art District on Santa Fe — look for the marquee mid-block, not some hidden entrance. There's an on-site parking lot, but the district fills fast on First Fridays, when the whole strip turns into an evening gallery walk; the light rail's 10th & Osage station is a short walk if you'd rather skip driving. Aim your visit around a performance and arrive early to browse the surrounding galleries and grab dinner at one of the Chicano or New Mexican spots nearby. Showtimes shift by season, so check the calendar before you commit.

Where: 721 Santa Fe Dr, Denver, CO 80204 (former Cameron Movie Theater, built 1921)

Hours: Performance-driven: showtimes vary by production run, so check the current season calendar — the building itself is a permanent fixture.
