Mesa Verde National Park Night Sky Program
Mesa Verde is a certified International Dark Sky Park whose deep darkness sits above the largest archaeological preserve in the U.S. Rangers run night-sky programs on Wednesday evenings at the Morefield Campground Amphitheater, opening with a 30-minute talk linking astronomy to the Ancestral Puebloans before a laser-guided tour of the constellations and telescope viewing. Programs begin around 9 p.m. in early summer, shifting earlier as the season progresses, and depend on clear weather.
The move: Drive up into the park for the Wednesday ranger program, then lie back at the amphitheater as a green laser traces the summer Milky Way over the high desert.
📍 Before you go Roughly 35-45 miles west of Durango; park entry fee applies. Weather-dependent and seasonal; bring warm layers as temps drop fast at altitude.
