Helena Astronomical Society star parties

Helena's volunteer astronomy club owns a permanently mounted telescope at its own small observatory north of town plus a loaner scope for members. They put on free public outreach nights, dragging telescopes out to spots like Centennial Park's ball fields so anyone can show up and look through the eyepiece. The same volunteers staff the big public nights at Canyon Ferry, so the expertise runs deep. Because it's all run by enthusiasts, dates float with the moon phase and clear-sky forecasts rather than a fixed calendar.

The move: Catch one of their free public stargazing nights at Centennial Park and let a local astronomer point you toward whatever planet or nebula is up that evening.

Where: 1659 Karmen Rd., Helena, MT 59602 (members' observatory); public events often at Centennial Park

Hours: Added 2026-06-24 — confirm current hours before you go.
