Armand Bayou Nature Center — Firefly Hikes

Houston's largest urban wilderness reserve — 2,500 acres of bayou, prairie, and forest inside the metro — runs small, reserved nighttime hikes timed to four native firefly species that flash in sequence from late winter into early summer.

The move: Book the 2-hour reserved slot (12-person cap, closed-toe shoes mandatory, ages 6+), then walk the dark trails as staff point out which firefly species is flashing that week — the same reserve pivots to Bat Hikes, Owl Prowls, and Full Moon Hikes once firefly season ends.
