Bayou Blacksmithing at Armand Bayou Nature Center
A 2,500-acre nonprofit nature preserve better known for its bison herd and boardwalk trails also runs a working blacksmith forge, where resident smiths hand total beginners a hammer and walk them through shaping raw steel into a keepsake to take home.
The move: Book the $30 (member $25) beginner workshop together — gear up in eye protection, closed-toe shoes, and non-synthetic clothing, then forge a piece side by side under direct instruction from a resident blacksmith. Sessions require a 4-person minimum and run about 2-3 hours, so grab a walk out to the bison viewing platform afterward since you're already on the grounds.
