Entry No. 9 — the Houston file — filed under: art
The Cistern (Buffalo Bayou Park)
A decommissioned 1926 underground drinking-water reservoir the size of 1.5 football fields, its 221 slender concrete columns standing in ankle-deep water under a 17-second echo so long a single dropped word ripples back at you three times.
The move: Book a timed tour together, stand on the illuminated walkway ringing the flooded floor and test the echo by talking at opposite ends, then catch the current art installation "Undercurrents" (running through January 2027) before it's gone.
