Perched on the roof of UMKC's Royall Hall, this hidden-in-plain-sight observatory has been run by volunteers for over 50 years, offering public stargazing on clear Friday nights from May to October.

The move: Climb the stairwell to the roof of Royall Hall on a clear Friday night to peer through the custom-built, 900-pound 'Warko' telescope, a handmade 1950s labor of love.
