Dawn Mine

Tucked away in the historic Potosi Mining District south of Las Vegas, the Dawn Mine was a prominent early 20th-century producer of zinc, lead, and silver. Today, the remote desert site features several tailings piles, scattered historic miner debris, and multiple gated or collapsed adits. The main incline shaft is sealed with a protective iron bat gate to preserve the underground habitat while keeping visitors safe.

The move: Drive out via a high-clearance 4WD vehicle to explore the rugged desert landscape, photograph the historic tailings and gated adits from a safe distance, and enjoy a quiet picnic overlooking the Spring Mountains.

📍 Before you go The mine is located on public land within the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, but the underground workings are extremely dangerous and blocked by bat gates or collapsed rock, meaning visitors must strictly remain outside.
