Entry No. 8 — the Los Angeles file — filed under: history
Heritage Square Museum
Eight ornate Victorian-era buildings, including a Queen Anne mansion, an 1897 church, an old rail depot, and a rare octagon house, were trucked here from across LA to escape demolition and now sit clustered beside the Arroyo Seco Parkway. Hourly guided tours walk you through period interiors that feel like stepping into 1890s Los Angeles. The Hale House, with its lurid green-and-red paint scheme reproduced from original color chips, is the eccentric crown jewel.
The move: Take the guided tour through the relocated Victorian houses, lingering in the gaudy Hale House parlor.
