Entry No. 13 — the Los Angeles file — filed under: haunted

Whaley House Museum

Built in 1857 on the site of Old Town's public gallows, this two-story brick house has been dubbed America's Most Haunted House and is preserved by the Save Our Heritage Organisation. Reported spirits include Yankee Jim Robinson, hanged on the property before the house existed, and members of the Whaley family who lived and died inside. It now runs self-guided daytime visits, 30-40 minute guided evening tours, and exclusive after-hours paranormal investigations in rooms closed to the public.

The move: Drive down for the guided evening tour, standing where the gallows once dropped before exploring the lamplit Whaley parlors and graveyard next door.

📍 Before you go About 120 miles from central LA. Open daily; evening guided tours and after-hours paranormal investigations are ticketed and timed, so reserve ahead.
