Operated by the Louisville Astronomical Society, this hidden urban observatory is housed in a historic root cellar building at the back of E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park. During monthly public star parties, astronomers set up high-powered telescopes across four acres of observing field to view planets, deep-space nebulae, and lunar craters.

The move: Pack a blanket and thermos for a monthly Saturday night Star Party, then peer through 14-inch telescopes to spot Saturn's rings alongside local amateur astronomers.
