The House on the Rock

Built atop a sandstone chimney in Southern Wisconsin, this sprawling maximalist complex is arguably America's ultimate cabinet of curiosities. It features a colossal 200-foot sea monster fighting a giant squid, the world's largest indoor carousel with 269 non-horse creatures, automated mechanical orchestras, and room after room of armaments, dolls, and bizarre collectibles.

The move: Walk out onto the glass-walled Infinity Room suspended 218 feet over the forest valley, then lose yourselves in the glowing, surreal atmosphere of the carousel hall.
