Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum — Hands-On & Workshops in Monterey

Entry No. 5 — the Monterey file — filed under: outdoor museum

Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum

Worried the Salinas Valley's farming past was vanishing, locals in the 1980s relocated an entire scattered rural county onto one riverside lot: an 1887 one-room schoolhouse (La Gloria School), a 1903 train depot rescued from the wrecking ball, a working blacksmith shop, and barns full of century-old tractors and a 1927 Lincoln sedan.

The move: Free, walk-in, Tue–Sun 11am–4pm: wander the seven relocated historic buildings along the Salinas River, sit at the actual desks inside the moved La Gloria Schoolhouse, then picnic in San Lorenzo Park next door.

Where: 1160 Broadway Street, King City, CA 93930 (San Lorenzo Park)

Hours: Added 2026-07-20 — confirm current hours before you go.
