Insta-Gator Ranch and Hatchery
This working alligator ranch on the north shore is part of Louisiana's wild-gator conservation program, raising hundreds of animals from hatchlings to eight-footers in temperature-controlled barns. Tours are reservation-only and unusually hands-on: you can touch, feed, and even catch small gators from tabletop pools. During hatching season in August and September, visitors help baby alligators wriggle out of their eggs and take them for their first swim.
The move: Reserve a late-summer tour so you can each cradle a freshly hatched baby alligator during hatching season.
