Untermyer Gardens (Walled Persian Garden & Vista)
A Gilded Age industrialist's obsession survives behind a high stone wall: a quadrilateral Indo-Persian charbagh divided by water channels, flanked by columned pavilions and sphinx statues. A long stone Vista staircase descends dramatically toward the Hudson, and a Temple of Love sits perched over a ravine. The grounds were notorious in the 1970s as a rumored ritual site, adding a genuinely eerie backstory to the manicured beauty. Admission is free and the gardens open daily at 9 AM.
The move: Wander the walled Persian quadrants together, then descend the long stone Vista staircase to find the Temple of Love overlooking the river.
