Entry No. 5 — the Portland file — filed under: single-obsession
Stark's Vacuum Museum
Inside a working vacuum-repair showroom, 25 of "the most iconic and loved vacuums in history" line the walls, from a two-person-operated Busy-Bee to a Duntley Pneumatic that salesmen used to demo by doing chin-ups on it — all donated or traded in by customers over the decades.
The move: It's free and takes maybe ten minutes, so treat it as a weird pre- or post-dinner detour near Grand & Couch: read the hand-labeled 1800s-to-1960s timeline together and argue over which machine is the ugliest.
