Entry No. 30 — the Sacramento file — filed under: riverboat hotel
Delta King
This is the real 1927 sternwheeler, not a replica: a Scottish-built riverboat that ran prohibition-era gambling and jazz cruises to San Francisco, got drafted into the Navy as USS Delta King during WWII, then spent years as a rooming house moored in snowbound British Columbia before Sacramento towed it home. Staff and guests report a uniformed figure pacing the theater balcony where the original captain used to stand watch.
The move: Dinner at the Pilothouse Restaurant, a show at the boat's resident Capital Stage theater, then a walk past the old staterooms belowdecks where the floor is said to creak under no one.
