This 1947 canyon lodge is best known for sourdough pancakes, but the staff who close up describe lights and kitchen appliances switching on by themselves and cold spots that show up regardless of what the furnace is doing outside.

The move: Drive up the canyon for breakfast, then ask whoever's behind the counter about the lodge's reputation before heading up to Brighton or back down to the valley.
