Milam Park (built over El Campo Santo cemetery)

San Antonio's first public cemetery, opened 1848, was only partly emptied before the city paved it into a park in 1884. Revolutionary Ben Milam's statue was moved during 1970s renovations, erasing the marker over his actual grave -- his bones were rediscovered in 1993 under the gazebo where couples now get married.

The move: Cut through the park on your way to Market Square for dinner, find the Milam statue, and read the historical marker that most people walking past to the mariachi restaurants never stop for.
