Built in 1898 under a copper dome with stained glass attributed to Tiffany and John La Farge, this four-story neoclassical rotunda holds roughly 8,500 cremation niches — vessels range from crystal urns to a repurposed cookie jar and a San Francisco Giants tribute case, and a memorial to Harvey Milk stands among them.

The move: Wander the four floors of the Hall of Olympians, Titans, and Heroes reading the improvised, deeply personal memorials people built for their dead, then walk two blocks into Golden Gate Park.
